In an article posted in DOJ's website last December 12, 2014, the Department of Justice warned telcos about the misleading promos which they called "unlimited".Given the title that says "Unlimited" means unlimited, we know as consumers that there has been some false information when these huge telcos says unlimited. Started as an issue with unlimited text messages during its first run in the Philippines comes another issue regarding internet connectivity as it becomes a necessity when Smartphones took over.
As stated by the Secretary of Justice Leila M. De Lima, "While there is nothing wrong with advertisements and promotions, what is promised must be delivered". This has been a statement as complaints and concerns arise regarding the imposing of restrictions regarding these offers.
In the advisory dated December 9, 2014, the DOJ expounds that the infamous Fair Useage Policy (FUP) on the alleged unlimited internet service is inconsistent with the provisions of Consumer Act.
Given the fact that Philippines is way behind when it comes to internet connectivity, it still remains a huge question as to why an advancement regarding our technology flows in a slow pace. As an individual, many opinions has always been circulating which includes but not limited to the corrupt government or self-centered businessmen.
Either way, unlimited does mean unlimited no matter how we view it. It doesn't even change in the modern dictionary. As an example given by Assistant Secretary Geronimo L. Sy, head of the DOJ-Office for Competition, "unlimited data is like unlimited rice or buffet concept - restaurants cannot offer 'eat all you can' promo and when a customer eats more than the average person, to actually stop him or not to honor the commitment".
