In front of 23.234 cheering fans inside the Smart Araneta Coliseum and against a very tough Rain or Shine squad, San Mig Coffee held on and came away with a 92-89 victory in a Game 5 classic to win the 2014 PLDT Home Telpad PBA Governors Cup, three games to two, and nailing the rare Grand Slam feat on Wednesday, copping all three championships in the 39th season of the league.

The thrill was there while I was watching specially on the 4th quarter wherein the San Mig is just up by 3 points I had seen how Rain or Shine tried to shoot the three point just to lead the game to overtime but unfortunately they failed.

This championship, this four-peat, this Grand Slam hasnt hit me yet. Im overwhelmed by it, Cone said. Every time that we came into a big game, Id say this is the time it aint going to happen. We play with fire too much, it aint gonna happen. Somehow, the guys found a way. We do it again, get to a Game 7 or Game 5 or even a Game 3, it aint gonna happen this time. The odds are not in our favor and the guys again just found a way.

The Most Valuable Player

Who else? James Yap takes home MVP of 2014 Governors' Cup finals. The superstar wingman scored 29 points, including a series of clutch baskets, in the clinching Game Five, putting the final touches in a brilliant series that saw him average 16.2 points and 4.4 rebounds against the tough Rain or Shine Elasto Painters defense.

It was the fourth time Big Game James shone brightest in the biggest stage of Philippine basketball. He also won the finals MVP trophy in the 2010 Philippine Cup and the 2012 Commissioner's Cup.
